Dragon Boat Festival 2026 Celebration – A Heartwarming Community Event in Southampton
By Hampshire Chinese Association
On Sunday, 21 June 2026, we came together at Coishi Southampton for a very special afternoon, our Dragon Boat Festival celebration. And what a wonderful time it was!
Despite being a small, intimate gathering, the event was filled with laughter, warmth, and the beautiful aroma of freshly made zongzi and Chinese tea. We were thrilled to welcome not only members of the local Chinese community but also many friends from Southampton’s wider neighbourhood, all curious to learn about this ancient tradition and share in the festive spirit.
A Taste of Tradition
The highlight of the day was, without doubt, the food! Our guests savoured traditional zongzi, sticky rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves, alongside fragrant cups of Chinese tea. For many, it was their first time tasting these festive treats, and the smiles said it all.
Conversations flowed easily as people from different backgrounds sat together, exchanging stories and asking questions about the customs behind the festival.

Connecting Communities
The Dragon Boat Festival, with its 2,000 year history, honours the poet Qu Yuan and symbolises unity, health, and protection. But for us at HCA, this event was about more than history, it was about connection. Seeing children and adults alike engage with Chinese culture, make new friends, and leave with a deeper appreciation of our traditions reminded us why we do what we do.
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who joined us, to our volunteers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes, and to Coishi Southampton for hosting us in such a welcoming space.

Looking Ahead
Though the event was small, its impact was mighty. We proved that cultural exchange doesn’t need a grand stage, it just needs open hearts and a shared table. We hope to continue organising more community gatherings in the future, and we look forward to seeing even more faces at our next celebration.
Until then, thank you for being part of our Dragon Boat Festival story. And remember there’s always room for one more at our table!
